I Wake Up MAD!!!
If the first rule of a dysfunctional system is ‘Don’t talk about it,’ then our primary goal should be to tell the truth, to be as honest as we can manage to be. When I read something truthful, something real, I breathe a deep sigh of relief and say, ‘Fantastic - I wasn’t mad or alone in thinking that, after all!’ So often we are left to our own devices, struggling in the dark with this external and internal propaganda system. At that point, for someone to tell us the truth is a gift. In a world where people all around us are lying and confusing us, to be honest is a great kindness.

Concerning “supportive space” in the academy, higher education depends upon the continued support of elites, given that it is a leading sector of the global North whose governing principles include the management and control of disenfranchised communities. Institutions of higher education have a vested interest in keeping scholarship “objective” (mystifying), “nonpolitical” (nonsubversive), and “academic” (elitist) and in continuing to reserve the most advanced technical training for that small portion of the world’s population who will manage the rest, as well as consume or control its resources and political economies. Unless elite educational institutions are transformed, activist research will never reside within the academic mainstream as an entity that produces a revolutionary, or even radical, counternarrative and practice.

Democracy Now! on the Cooper Union occupation.

It’s sort of like if you have two kids, and you give one of them a cookie and the other one half a cookie. Then you give the kid with half a cookie another half a cookie to make it even, and the kid with the whole cookie starts to scream about how it’s not fair that the second kid got ‘two cookies’.

What’s funny is that that very young children do just this because of how they perceive units versus subunits. So, yeah, acting with the intelligence of someone who’s not even four.

Petition to reform the high school history curriculum to include the history of Aboriginal peoples, including the residential schools episode
Deadline to sign online-petition: May 11, 2013

I would really appreciate if all my followers could sign this and pass it on. It’s important for people in Canada, especially Quebec, to realize the importance of teaching about Native history.

I believe you should be able to look at an English version of it but I don’t know if the link differs. Just in case:

I truly appreciate any signatures, likes and reblogs on this post.
